Repossession is a scary word for any home owner. If you are facing the threat of losing your home the one thing you must not do is ignore it. It’s quite easy to understand that life in general has its own everyday challenges so the added pressure of potential repossession causes some people to bury their heads in the sand and pretend that it’s not going to happen. But in practice, ignoring the threat of repossession never makes it go away.
The sooner you act the better.
If you are unable to meet your mortgage repayments and arrears have built up you should talk to your lender to see if you can arrange a repayment plan that suits you both. If that’s not possible, you need to find another course of action. Make sure you understand your rights and see if there are any benefits to which you might be entitled but you are not claiming.
The Citizens Advice Bureau and the Department of Work and Pensions
will be able to answer questions and help you with these matters.
